Virtual Food Drive FAQs

  1. What are the benefits of hosting a Virtual Food Drive?

Every Dollar Counts. The North Texas Food Bank can maximize monetary donations because of their wholesale purchasing ability, partnerships with food donors and suppliers. Every $1 donated allows NTFB to provide 3 meals!

How About Them Apples. Hosting a Virtual Food Drive allows you to help more of your neighbors facing hunger by raising funds the Food Bank can use to purchase nutritious food in bulk quantities at less than wholesale prices including fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy and proteins.

Can be Done Anywhere. This is an online program, which makes giving through a Virtual Food Drive just a click away. Anyone can participate whether you are at the office or at home.

Cutting Cost, Not Corners. Virtual Food Drives reduce transportation costs and employee hours to stock shelves and dispose of donated items that may be expired or damaged, all costs that drive up expenses for the Food Bank.

Leave the Heavy Lifting to Us. Virtual Food Drives spare organizers the inconvenience of an in-person event and moving heavy boxes of donated food.

  2. What is the difference between an individual fundraising page and creating a team?
An individual fundraising page is best if you want one donation page that friends/family can shop from.

If you would like your friends/family to ALSO be able to set up a fundraising page and invite THEIR friends to donate, then select the Create One Team option.

  3. Do I have to create a team or be a team member to donate through the Virtual Food Drive?
No, you can make a Virtual Food Drive donation without being on a team. Select I Just want to Shop to add food items to a virtual shopping cart.

  4. Can I donate through the Virtual Food Drive without shopping?
Yes. To donate through a Virtual Food Drive without selecting items, click I Just Want to Make a Monetary Donation. Donate Now.

  5. How can I make my food drive successful?
    • Set a goal to work towards.
    • Share your Virtual Food Drive on social media regularly.
    • Set a time period for your fundraiser. Ideally 30-60 days.
    • If you are a team captain:
      • Host a kickoff event to get your team excited about your Virtual Food Drive. Let your team know how NTFB helps your community by showing them a NTFB Video or request a speaker from NTFB to attend.
      • Offer an incentive to your team if your goal is met.
      • Provide regular reminders and progress reports to your team members.
      • If you are a business, request matching contributions to your employer.
      • Create theme days such as "Canned Fruit Fridays".

  6. Can donors give anonymously?
Donors can choose to make their gift amount and/or their name anonymous and not have the amount/name displayed publicly.

  7. How are online and mail-in donations counted toward my Virtual Food Drive?
Donors who wish to give online can donate directly on your Virtual Food Drive Home Page. These gifts are immediately reflected on your Progress Thermometer. If a donor chooses to support your drive by mailing a check directly to the Food Bank, please instruct them to clearly attach your drive or organization name to any mail-in donations. Checks made out to The North Texas Food Bank should be mailed to: 3677 Mapleshade Lane. Plano, TX 75075.

  8. What if a donor accidentally donated on a different page? Can this still count toward my goal?
Yes. Email the donor’s name and gift amount to vfd@ntfb.org and we will process this for you.

  9. A donor lost or did not receive a receipt. Can they request a new one?
Yes, donor receipts can be reissued upon request. Please also check junk/spam folders. Please email vfd@ntfb.org to request a new receipt.

  10. Can I close my page?
Pages will remain live throughout the year. However, you can request to deactivate your drive by emailing vfd@ntfb.org.
